Calgary Move-Out Cleaning Checklist

Oven interior before and after cleaning

Move-out cleaning is easier to plan when the home is accessible and the expected tasks are clear. Use this checklist to prepare for a Calgary move, then confirm the room-by-room scope with your cleaner. Your lease, landlord or purchaser may have separate requirements, and cleaning does not guarantee the return of a rental deposit.

Confirm the Scope Before Moving Day

List the rooms, bathrooms, appliances and interior storage areas you want cleaned. Ask whether cupboards must be empty and which appliance interiors are included. Tell us about heavy grease, built-up soil, renovation residue or areas that need special attention. A whole-home clean does not automatically include carpet deep steam cleaning or upholstery treatment; those must be part of the agreed quote.

Empty and Organize the Space

  • Remove personal belongings from the agreed cleaning areas.
  • Empty drawers and cupboards that are included in the scope.
  • Remove food and loose items from appliances being cleaned.
  • Dispose of your moving rubbish and identify any items that must stay.
  • Keep keys, remotes, important documents and valuables in a clearly separate place.

Tell the cleaner if movers, contractors or other trades will still be present. Work is easier to coordinate when furniture movement and dusty tasks are complete before the final clean.

Plan Access in a Calgary House or Condo

Confirm parking, entry instructions and any building access restrictions. For a condo, ask building management about service-elevator reservations and loading rules. Keep water and power available where the agreed work requires them. Make a plan for pets so doors and work areas can be used safely.

Separate Cleaning From Repair

Cleaning may improve visible soil, but it does not repair damaged finishes, holes, worn flooring or permanent discolouration. Mark existing damage and discuss it before work begins. Pet odour can also come from deeper material layers. Carpet backing and underlay may retain contamination even after surface cleaning.

Allow Time for Drying and a Walk-Through

If carpet or upholstery cleaning is included, plan access and handover around drying. Carpets often need approximately 8–12 hours, with the actual time affected by airflow, temperature, humidity and material. Follow the technician’s guidance and avoid covering damp areas.

Keep your agreed scope available for the final review. Raise questions about a particular area with the cleaner, and distinguish remaining permanent damage from a task that needs attention. Report cleaning concerns within 72 hours so AD Spotless can review them with you.
