After renovation work, fine dust can settle on floors, ledges and other accessible surfaces. A clear post-renovation cleaning plan starts with the work that is finished, the materials installed and the areas still being used by trades. Arrange the Clean After Dust-Producing Work
Confirm when sanding, cutting and other dusty tasks will finish. If construction continues after the clean, newly disturbed dust can settle again. Agree who removes building debris and packaging, and make sure the cleaning areas are accessible before the appointment.
Tell your cleaner about any rooms that remain under construction or must be kept separate. A floor plan or room list helps clarify where work is expected, especially when only part of a home has been renovated.
Agree a Surface-by-Surface Checklist
Discuss accessible floors, ledges, trim, fixtures, kitchens and bathrooms. Identify whether appliance interiors, cupboards or interior window glass are included.
New surfaces can have specific care instructions. Share the manufacturer’s guidance for flooring, stone, cabinetry, coatings and fixtures. Adhesive, paint and grout residue should be assessed separately before anyone attempts to remove them. Strong chemicals or abrasive tools can damage an otherwise new finish.
Cleaning Is Different From Restoration
A cleaning appointment does not replace repairs, refinishing or remediation. Scratches, damaged coatings and permanent marks may remain after loose dust and soil are removed. Do not assume cleaning will reverse installation damage or remove every paint or dye stain.
If you suspect hazardous dust, asbestos, mould contamination or another material requiring specialist handling, stop ordinary cleaning in that area and seek an appropriately qualified assessment. These conditions need a separate plan; do not include them as routine household dust removal.
Consider Carpets and Soft Furnishings Separately
Tell us whether carpets or upholstered furniture were exposed during the work. Professional carpet cleaning follows dry vacuuming, pre-treatment, scrubbing/agitation, deep steam cleaning, and extraction. It must be specifically included in the quote and must suit the material and its condition.
Cleaning cannot guarantee complete removal of embedded contamination or permanent discolouration.
Before the Appointment
- Confirm that dusty construction tasks and debris removal are complete.
- Provide safe access, parking and any building instructions.
- Share material-care information and identify delicate finishes.
- Agree the included rooms, surfaces and any separate carpet or upholstery work.
- Leave time for drying before furniture is replaced or rooms return to normal use.
